11 celebrities who don’t sleep like most people do!

Sleep patterns can vary a lot from person to person. Most have their roots in our inner selves or in our past. We also display similar traits in many situations of our daily lives, such as when we’re under stress, at work, or in life with our family and our environment. We can find that some habits are difficult to control while we may choose to adopt others on purpose.

Celebrities and famous personalities have their own habits too and these can be quite unusual or even very bizarre! But don’t worry, it’s alright in the end!

Here’s our favourite selection:

Jennifer Lopez

This famous actress and singer considers sleep to be pretty important. When being a mother doesn’t get in her way, she tries to sleep for at least 8 hours a night. She believes that sleeping well and drinking lots of water is nature’s best kept beauty secret.

Eminem

This American rapper can only sleep in total darkness. When he’s on tour, he checks with the hotel staff to ensure his bedroom is completely dark. He's even had to ask for an aluminium window to be covered to stop light from getting in. When sleeping at night, he also needs white noise from a TV or speakers. This background noise and the total darkness mean he can stay asleep at night and concentrate on his gigs when he’s on tour.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey, who is probably one of the world’s most successful singers, has her very own sleep patterns. Her greatest asset is, without doubt, her voice and she protects and takes care of this by sleeping up to 15 hours a night. In an interview, she revealed that she needs so much sleep so she can sing like she does. That’s why she sleeps twice as long as the average person. She also sleeps with about twenty humidifiers around her bed, which is like sleeping in a steam bath.

Bill Gates

Multi-billionaire Bill Gates usually reads every night before going to bed. He prefers biographies, books on philosophy and magazines. Also, he always sleeps for exactly 7 hours.

Arianna Huffington

Two years after the Huffington Post’s launch, its executive director collapsed with burnout. Since then, she sleeps for at least 8 hours a night and has banned all electronic devices from her bedroom.

Wayne Rooney

In his autobiography, this Manchester United and England team footballer said that he couldn’t fall asleep without a vacuum cleaner running in the background. If he doesn’t have one, he can use his wife's hair dryer as a substitute.

Winston Churchill

This former British Prime Minister was a night owl and worked better during the night. To maintain this pattern, he used to stop every day at 5.00pm and drink a whisky and coke then have a 2-hour nap. Then, he went back to work to carry on with his intensive night routine.

Tom Cruise

Actor Tom Cruise snores so loudly that he needs a soundproofed area built like a small capsule so he can sleep without disturbing others. This is a small and dark but comfortable space and no sound emanates from the inside. Even when he was with his ex-wife Katie Holmes, they each had their own bedroom at home because otherwise she couldn’t sleep due to his snoring.

Stephen King

This famous horror writer is obsessed with pillows and that’s not all! It’s also important that these pillows are in the right position. The open end of the pillow must always face to one side of the bed. Also, he must always wash his hands before going to bed. He doesn’t actually know what drives him to do this but he does know how to write bestsellers.

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens, the great British author, is known for his novels Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, The Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. However, Dickens had major sleep problems. To sleep better, he followed a very strange ritual and always slept facing north, even going so far as to take a compass to ensure this when he was traveling. He believed this helped him to sleep better and inspired his creativity. Regardless of whether this is true, he’s left us a legacy of very successful work.

Léonard De Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was a true genius and his sleeping habits were as unusual as his talents. He believed in the power of the siesta and slept by following a particular schedule when he napped for 20 minutes every 4 hours. Did he really have this type of sleep pattern? We can’t prove it but what we do know is that his works are pure genius.
